The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has declared that misconduct and abuse of office will no longer be tolerated within the Nigeria Police Force, warning that erring officers will face strict disciplinary measures.
In a firm message to personnel on Thursday, Disu said the era of impunity in the Force had ended, stressing that the police badge represents public trust and must not be abused.
“The days of impunity are over. The badge is a symbol of public trust. Anyone who treats it otherwise will face the full consequences of our disciplinary processes,” he said.
The Acting IGP emphasised that professionalism, accountability and ethical conduct would be the cornerstone of his leadership, adding that restoring public confidence in the Force remains a top priority.
His remarks come amid growing public concern over cases of police misconduct and calls for deeper reforms within the Force. Observers say his stance signals a renewed push for internal discipline and institutional accountability.
Disu recently assumed office as Acting Inspector-General of Police following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu, succeeding Olukayode Egbetokun.
Security analysts note that Nigerians will be watching closely to see how the new police chief translates his strong rhetoric into measurable reforms, particularly in the areas of discipline, human rights compliance and service delivery.
