The Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation and collective security.
Defence ministry’s Deputy Director for Information and Public Relations, Enderlune Chukwu, in a statement on Wednesday, said the minister made this known during his recent official visit to N’Djamena, Chad, where he participated in a meeting of Defence Ministers of Troop Contributing Countries under the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), convened by the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC).
During engagements at the meeting, Musa stressed the need for sustained collaboration to dismantle terrorist networks and stabilise the Lake Chad Basin.
He commended the government and people of Chad for hosting the meeting and acknowledged their leadership within the MNJTF framework. Participating ministers also expressed appreciation to the Chadian President and Chairman of the LCBC Summit for his continued support in advancing regional peace and security.
The high-level meeting brought together Defence Ministers and representatives from member states, including Chad, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Benin, alongside senior military leadership, intelligence chiefs, and key stakeholders in regional security operations. It served as a strategic platform to review ongoing operations and reinforce collective efforts against terrorism and cross-border threats in the Lake Chad Basin.
Deliberations also focused on reports presented by Chiefs of Defence Staff and heads of intelligence and security agencies, with emphasis on the operational effectiveness of the MNJTF and emerging security dynamics across the region.
During closed-door sessions, ministers engaged in frank discussions on critical challenges such as force deployment, funding constraints, and the evolving threat landscape.
The Ministry reiterated Nigeria’s resolve to sustain collaboration with regional partners in tackling insecurity and promoting lasting stability in the Lake Chad Basin.
