Defence Minister Urges New Army Generals To Heighten Operational Excellence

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has charged newly promoted Generals of the Nigerian Army to demonstrate greater commitment, loyalty and professionalism in their service to the nation.
The Nigerian Army on Wednesday decorated 28 of its Brigadier Generals, including one promoted posthumously, who had been elevated to the rank of General at a ceremony held at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja.
General Musa, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, commended the newly promoted officers for their outstanding courage, competence and long-standing dedication to national security, noting that their elevation reflects their proven integrity and the collective aspiration to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s operational effectiveness.
He urged them to confront evolving security challenges with renewed vigour, stressing that their new responsibilities place them at the heart of shaping the Army’s strategic direction. Describing them as “some of the finest leaders in our Armed Forces,” he expressed pride in their achievements.
The Minister underscored the importance of enhanced collaboration among the services, improved intelligence coordination and unified action across Nigeria’s security architecture. He also acknowledged the critical support provided by the officers’ families and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to improving welfare and operational capacity.
He further conveyed the goodwill of President Bola Tinubu assuring that the administration remains steadfast in supporting the Armed Forces with the resources required to meet contemporary security demands.
In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, stated that the promotion of the officers represents an important milestone in their careers and a recognition of their integrity, professionalism and steadfast service.

He affirmed that the Nigerian Army upholds a transparent, merit-based promotion system and continues to invest in initiatives that bolster personnel morale and welfare, including better medical care, improved infrastructure and an enabling environment for excellence.
Responding on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Major General Francis Omata expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for approving the promotions. He pledged unwavering loyalty and reaffirmed their dedication to national service. He also commended the Minister of Defence and the COAS for their visionary leadership and consistent mentorship.
The ceremony attracted notable dignitaries, including former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the Minister of State for Finance, members of the National Assembly, Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, former Service Chiefs, senior military leaders, and the President of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association, among others.
