Drug Peddling: IGP Commends Lagos Cops For Rejecting N4m Bribe
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has commended the operatives of the police tactical team attached to Area K, Marogbo, Lagos State Command, for rejecting a N4 millionĀ bribe during investigation.
Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, said, the officer in charge, SP Rilwan Kasumu, and his team rejected the said sum while investigating a case of drug peddling and unlawful possession of ammunition.
TheFact Daily reports that the team had, on Tuesday, 6th February, 2024, arrested one 42-year-old Esther Newman Obiekezie, aka Candy, of No 6, Mojirade Street, Ilogbo Lagos, where she sells the illicit substance called ICE, and recovered a large quantity of the substance and some AK47 live ammunition from her.
During the course of the investigation, the duo of Akete Esther, and Oke Okebalam, came to the station in Ijanikin, to solicit for the release of the suspected drug peddler and offered the sum of four million naira, for the police to cease disrupting the illegal business, and let the arrested suspect go.
The police officer who frowned at the offer siezed the cash, marked it as exhibit and arrested the duo for further investigation and prosecution.
“The IGP, therefore, reiterates the commitment of the Force to harnessing all available means and adopting professional anti crime strategies to tackle all forms of crimes and criminality in Nigeria”, Adejobi said.
