Education Minister Bows To Pressure, Approves 16years For Tertiary Institutions Admission
By Alice Etuka, Abuja
Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman has conceded to popular demands to peg admission age at 16years.
Mamman announced this on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the 2024 Policy Meeting and 4th Edition of NATAP-M Awards held in Abuja.
The meeting comprising of Vice Chancellors of Universities, Rectors of Polytechnics, and Provosts of Colleges of Education Registrars.
There had been an uproar after the Minister directed JAMB to deny candidates under 18 years admission into Tertiary institutions.
They argued that since the candidates were not informed about the age limit before registering for the 2024 UTME, they should be pardoned and that the 18years criteria be enforced from next year going forward.
