The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over N387,483,488.00 recovered from fraudulent activities to the Jigawa State Government.
According to EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, the funds were presented on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, to the Director of Treasury Operations in Jigawa State, Muhammad Haruna, during a brief ceremony at the EFCC’s Kano office.
The recovery followed an investigation triggered by intelligence from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), which flagged the alleged misappropriation of public funds involving two suspects, Abdullahi Garba and Ayuba Sani.
Acting on the intelligence, EFCC operatives launched a detailed probe that led to the recovery of the full amount from the suspects.
Following the investigation, both men were arraigned in court on charges bordering on misappropriation of public funds. Abdullahi Garba was subsequently convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment after pleading guilty, while Ayuba Sani is still standing trial.
Speaking during the handover, the Acting Zonal Director of the Kano Directorate, ACE Friday S. Ebelo, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to tackling corruption and recovering stolen assets.
“The EFCC remains resolute in its mandate to investigate and recover proceeds of crime. This handover underscores our determination to ensure that funds meant for public development are not diverted for personal use,” he said.
In his response, Haruna commended the EFCC for its professionalism and diligence, noting that the recovered funds would ultimately benefit the people of Jigawa State.
“We deeply appreciate the EFCC for recovering this substantial amount. It highlights the critical role of the Commission in safeguarding public funds for the benefit of citizens,” he said.
