The Etsu of Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has been elected as the Board Chairman News Engineering Nigeria Ltd.
The company’s Managing Director, Josephine Nwaeze, disclosed this after the board meeting on Thursday in Abuja.
Nwaeze said the board resolved to make Abubakar the chairman following the demise of the former board chairman, Gen. Garuba Duba, in May.
She said the board, during its meeting, also constituted five committees to run the effective affairs of the company.
She named the committees to include nomination and governance, finance and general purpose, audit, risk management/compliance, and renewable energy and innovation committees.
Meanwhile, during his acceptance speech, the new chairman expressed his appreciation to the board and the managing director for the opportunity to serve as board chairman.
“I want to thank the MD of this company, under the leadership of Lady Josephine Nwaeze, and all the board members of this body.
“The board of directors and shareholders of News Engineering, for entrusting me with the privilege of serving as the board’s next chairman after the demise of Buba, who died this year.
“I want to also start by paying tribute to the founder and pioneer managing director, Sir Cyprian Nwaeze, for his dedication and visionary leadership.”
The new chairman called for the support of the board members and stakeholders to steer the company’s affairs effectively and efficiently.
“My fellow board members, I look forward to collaborating with you to drive innovation, excellence, and impact in our industry and this organisation.
“I pray Almighty God will guide us through, give us wealth, and with that, contribute our quota to the progress and development of this organisation.
“For your efforts so far, I commend you and thank you immensely. You have continued to give your quota, one way or another.
“This is by reaching out to a larger society or community, promoting and advancing the aims and objectives of this company. So thank you very much,” he said.
Abubakar then pledged his commitment to the company, saying his priority would be to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning while honouring the legacies of past leaders.
He said,” I am highly proud, privileged, and honoured to accept this role as your board chairman.
“I promise to work tirelessly with our team to drive growth, innovation, and sustainability. I commit to listening to your voices and to being transparent and accountable.
“And to make decisions that benefit our organisation and community. Let us work together to write the next chapter in our organisation’s history, marked by excellence, collaboration, and progress.
