The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Customs Licensed Cargo Agents operating at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, have agreed on a revised cargo port charge tariff of ₦15 per kilogram.
The agreement was reached on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by FAAN’s Director of Cargo Development and Services, Mr. Lekan Thomas in Lagos.
According to FAAN, the new tariff represents a compromise between FAAN’s initial proposal of ₦20 per kilogram and the existing charge of ₦7 per kilogram, following extensive deliberations between both parties.
FAAN described the outcome as a product of constructive dialogue, partnership and shared responsibility, noting that it balances the interests of operators with the need to sustain airport and cargo infrastructure.
According to the Authority, the revised charge is expected to enhance ease of doing business at MMIA while supporting ongoing modernization of cargo terminal facilities.
FAAN reaffirmed its commitment to continuous stakeholder engagement and adherence to its SEDI principles—Safety, Efficiency, Development and Innovation—aimed at improving service delivery across the aviation value chain.
The Authority in a statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire commended the Customs Licensed Cargo Agents for their cooperation and expressed optimism that the agreement would strengthen collaboration in advancing Nigeria’s air cargo sector.
