The National Universities Commission (NUC) has licensed the Ebonyi state University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering, the 69th state owned university and the 300th university in the Nigerian University System.
The certificate of recognition was presented to the Governor of Ebonyi state, Francis Nwifuru in a brief ceremony at the NUC headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu stated that, “this historic occasion is not just a testament to the state’s commitment to education, but also a reflection of our collective resolve to expand access to quality university education for all Nigerians”.
He added that the National Universities Commission remained dedicated to ensuring that the nation’s higher education sector meets the highest standards of academic excellence.
“The approval of this university shall be in line with our mandate to regulate and maintain quality assurance within the Nigerian university system.
“The Ebonyi state government has played a significant role in expanding access to quality higher education through policies, infrastructure development, funding, and now the establishment of a third state-owned university, which further underscores the government’s commitment to expanding higher education opportunities.
“The establishment of Ebonyi State University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering, Ezza, Ebonyi State is yet another bold and strategic move that will undoubtedly empower the youth, develop the workforce, and promote knowledge-driven development in the state”, he said.
The Executive Secretary stated that the establishment of a dedicated institution focused on aeronautics and aerospace engineering was not just a response to the growing demands of our society, but a proactive step towards shaping the future of our nation in the global aerospace industry.
“Your relentless effort for knowledge and excellence has laid a strong foundation for future generations of engineers, scientists, and innovators.
“As we stand on the brink of a new era in aviation and aerospace technology, it is critical that we equip our students with the skills and knowledge required to navigate the complexities of this dynamic field.
“May I also emphasize the importance of collaboration between the academia and industry. By forging strong partnerships with aerospace companies, research institutions, and government agencies, we can ensure that our students have access to cutting-edge technology and real-world experiences”, he said.
In response, Governor Nwifuru, represented by his deputy, Mrs Patricia Obila appreciated the NUC ‘s support with the promise to ensure the success of the institution.
“We will not only sustain this certificate, we will do everything in our own means to make sure that you have counted us as number one. But I’m telling you, by the time we start our full operation, that number last, now, will be the first.
“We will make our Nigeria proud. Because from our own little contribution, we are going to empower a lot of people from that university. Not just education, employment, and a lot of things will come up in this university”, he said.
