FG Renames January 15 As “Armed Forces Celebration, Remembrance Day

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially designated January 15 as Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.

The Director, Defence Information, Defence Headquarters, Abuja, Major General Samaila Uba, on Thursday, urged media organizations to adopt the new designation, “Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day,” in all future coverage.

Previously known as “Armed Forces Remembrance Day,” the name change was implemented to better reflect the dual purpose of the occasion: celebrating the achievements of serving personnel while remembering those who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.

The Armed Forces also expressed gratitude for the media’s continued support in the nation’s efforts to combat insecurity, emphasizing the importance of sustained collaboration moving forward.

The day is traditionally preceded by a week of activities across the country, culminating in a grand parade and wreath-laying ceremony on January 15.
