
The Federal Fire Service (FFS) says it is collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure that all facts surrounding the May 9 2025 fatal crash involving one of its trucks, are established and appropriate actions are taken.
The Service in a statement on its Facebook page on Tuesday, gave an update on the investigation process, while appealing for patience and continued trust from the general public, as due process unfolds.
The tragic incident incident occured around 11 pm at the ECOWAS Junction in Wuse 2, Abuja, when one of the Service’s rescue trucks collided with a Toyota Camry, resulting in the loss of three young lives, and leaving one survivor critically injured. The truck was said to have been en route to refill its water supply having exhausted it during a firefighting operation at Avenue Plaza, Banex. It was operating at high speed with its siren blaring when it collided with the Toyota Camry, which was emerging from a connecting street at the junction.
The FFS affirmed that, following the incident, the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Engr. Jaji Abdulganiyu, paid a personal condolence visit to the affected family, on 11th May, 2025, immediately after the incident, anda second visit on May 12, 2025 alongside management and staff of the FFS.
The Service further averred that it has remained in contact with the family and will continue to offer necessary support during this difficult period, even as “a comprehensive internal investigation was immediately initiated and remains ongoing”.
The statement added that three personnel directly involved in the incident; the driver and two accompanying firefighters have been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
“The Federal Fire Service remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and accountability in all aspects of its operations.
Our thoughts remain with the grieving family during this difficult time”, the statement said.
