Worried by the devastating floods across the country, Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport en route to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, for an on-the-spot assessment of the floods that have ravaged Maiduguri.
His Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
The floods, triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam, have submerged homes, roads, and bridges in Maiduguri, leaving thousands displaced and in need of urgent assistance.
Nkwocha disclosed that the Vice President Shettima has expressed deep concern over the situation and has directed relevant government agencies to provide immediate relief to the affected communities.
He, further disclosed that during his visit, the Vice President would assess the extent of the damage, interact with the displaced residents, and oversee the ongoing relief efforts.
Nkwocha said, he would also hold meetings with state and local government officials to coordinate a comprehensive response plan.
