Four Dead In Katsina Ramadan Alms Stampede

The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the death of four persons following a stampede during the distribution of annual Ramadan alms at Kofar Guga Quarters the state.

The state command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, in a statement on Sunday, said the incident occurred on February 26, 2026, at about 9:00 p.m., after a large crowd gathered at the residence of a philanthropist, Alhaji Dahiru Usman Sarki, for the charity exercise.

According to him, a distress call was received at the Central Police Station in Katsina reporting that the crowd surge had led to a stampede, leaving several people injured.

Police operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene and, alongside other responders, evacuated victims to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. Four of the injured were later confirmed dead.

The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

He also directed a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the implementation of measures to prevent a recurrence.

The Command advised individuals and organisations planning public almsgiving or similar events to notify the police in advance to enable adequate security deployment and crowd control, ensuring safety and orderliness.

It added that further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
