
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has reaffirmed its commitment to road safety and seeking the continued support of all relevant stakeholders in achieving its mandate.
The affirmation was contained in a message delivered by the FRSC boss, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, on the occasion of the 37th year anniversary celebration of the Corps on Tuesday.
TheFact Daily reports that the Corps was established by the Federal Government in February 1988, and charged with the responsibilities for
preventing or minimizing accidents on the highway;
clearing obstructions on any part of the highways;
educating drivers, motorists and other members of the public generally on the proper use of the highways among many others.
The FRSC boss, while celebrating major milestones recorded in the Corps’ 37 years of daunting task of changing bad driving behaviours and entrenching safe road ideals in Nigeria, paid exceptional tribute to its large pool of stakeholders, particularly the media for their invaluable support, manifested in timely propagation of road safety policies and messages to the public.
He emphasized the very fact that FRSC has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with the media, which has been instrumental in disseminating vital information to the public on road safety, reporting on the activities, and amplifying all public awareness campaigns of the Corps.
The Corps Marshal also revealed that the Corps has leveraged various media platforms to attain to its present height, while reaffirming the Corps’ gratefulness for the media’s role in holding her accountable and providing constructive feedback, which has enabled the Corps to refine her strategies and improve on service delivery.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed highlighted numerous initiatives implemented by the Corps since inception which include public enlightenment campaigns, Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme, Driving School Standardisation Programme, driver’s license schemes, speed limit enforcement programs, and emergency ambulance services amongst others.
He stated that these efforts, put in by the Corps towards creating a safer motoring environment wouldn’t have been possible, and made known to the public without the collaboration and partnership of all stakeholders and the media. He therefore assured that the Corps will continue to seek the collaboration of all stakeholders as it extends the frontiers in road safety management.
