FRSC Unveils Safe Wheel Magazine, Showcases Reforms, Yuletide Safety Plans

By Anne Osemekeh

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has unveiled the first edition of Safe Wheel Nigeria Magazine, a flagship publication designed to enhance nationwide public enlightenment and promote safer road use.

The launch ceremony, held at the FRSC Headquarters Parade Ground in Abuja, featured an address by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, who described the magazine as a strategic tool for deepening public sensitization across communities, motor parks, institutions and government establishments.

Mohammed noted that mobility remains central to national development, stressing that the safety of every road journey must reflect Nigeria’s collective aspirations. He emphasized that the new publication places knowledge, innovation, and responsible road culture at the heart of the Corps’ renewed drive for safer roads.

Reviewing ongoing reforms, Mohammed highlighted significant progress achieved under the current FRSC leadership. Key improvements include modernization of road safety management systems, strengthened operational efficiency, and renewed public confidence in the Corps.

He announced a major breakthrough with the introduction of contactless biometric capture for the National Driver’s Licence, aligning the process with global standards while enhancing transparency and convenience for applicants.

He also revealed advancements in the Corps’ digital ecosystem for vehicle registration, including the development of special number plates for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles in support of Nigeria’s clean energy transition agenda.

On operations, the Corps Marshal reported enhanced intelligence-driven patrols, improved logistics deployment, and intensive staff training to address emerging road safety challenges. He also referenced recent public health interventions such as a free medical outreach for commercial drivers at Babanagode Motor Park.

Beyond enforcement, Mohammed praised the Corps’ sports teams — Safety Shooters and Safety Babes — for emerging champions of the 2025 Ardova Handball Premier League, describing their victory as evidence of FRSC’s investment in personnel morale and welfare.

The FRSC boss announced the commencement of the 2025 Operation Zero Exercise, effective 15 December, in view of the approaching festive season, emphasizing that the nationwide operation aims to boost visibility, expand patrol coverage, improve emergency response, and enforce traffic regulations to ensure safer road travel during the high-traffic period.

He explained that Safe Wheel Nigeria Magazine will serve as a platform for national dialogue, public feedback, and fresh insights on mobility and safety. The publication, he said, reinforces the Corps’ belief that information and public enlightenment remain critical tools for reducing crashes and fostering a more prosperous nation.

Mohammed commended the editorial team, partners, and FRSC personnel for their dedication in bringing the magazine to fruition, even as he reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to reducing crashes, strengthening institutional capacity, and building a safer, innovation-driven road transport system.

He concluded by inviting the Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Ekechi (High Chief), to lead the official unveiling of the magazine “to the glory of God and for safer roads in Nigeria.”
