Ganduje Orders Swift Overhaul Of Kano Airport, Gives Two-Week Deadline

The Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Dr. Umar Ganduje, has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to revamping key aviation infrastructure of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).

 Ganduje  stated this when  he led members of the Board on an inspection of Kano International airport, according to a statement made available on Wednesday by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry  Agbebire.

 marked Ganduje’s first official inspection tour since assuming the Board chairmanship.

 Accompanied by FAAN’s Managing Director Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, and other Board members, the team assessed critical facilities including the Fire Bay, Water Treatment Plant, and both Domestic and International Terminals.

During the tour, Dr. Ganduje commended FAAN’s management for sustaining operational standards but expressed concern over infrastructure delays that could affect service quality.

 He issued a two-week deadline to the contractor handling the domestic terminal to complete all pending works, including the VIP Lounge, emphasizing that “the era of abandoned projects and excuses is over.”

For Dr. Ganduje,  described the airport as a “gateway of opportunity and development for northern Nigeria”, pledging that the Board would work closely with management to restore MAKIA’s status as a modern aviation hub.

FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, reaffirmed the Authority’s determination to align all ongoing reforms with the strategic vision of the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, ensuring that “every Nigerian airport reflects a renewed culture of excellence.”

According to the statement, the inspection underscored FAAN’s new drive for transparency, infrastructure renewal, and operational efficiency as part of its broader transformation agenda under the current administration.
