The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has called for an urgent investigation into the redeployment of two police officers allegedly facing misconduct probes to sensitive positions within the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja.
In a petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and signed by its Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, the group raised concerns over what it described as a troubling pattern of assigning officers under investigation to critical operational roles.
The petition specifically named SP Bologi Abdullahi and SP Giwa Abdul as officers allegedly linked to multiple unresolved allegations, including abuse of office, corruption, extortion, and other forms of unprofessional conduct.
RULAAC expressed alarm that despite reportedly being under investigation, the officers were redeployed to strategic units within the FCID, including cybercrime and tactical investigation divisions.
“It is deeply troubling that officers reportedly under investigation by relevant police units have been reassigned to positions of responsibility within FCID Abuja, rather than being placed on administrative hold pending the conclusion of investigations,” the petition stated.
The group warned that such actions raise serious concerns about internal oversight and administrative judgment within the police hierarchy, noting that assigning officers facing serious allegations to sensitive units could expose the system to abuse.
According to RULAAC, the development risks undermining public trust in the Nigeria Police Force, particularly at a time when authorities have reiterated commitments to reform and accountability.
“The elevation or retention of officers facing serious allegations of misconduct undermines public trust in the Nigeria Police Force and contradicts ongoing reform efforts,” the group said.
The organisation called for an immediate review of the redeployments and urged the police leadership to withdraw the officers from sensitive duties pending the outcome of investigations, as well as place them on administrative suspension in line with due process.
It also demanded a transparent and independent probe into the allegations, with findings made public, and urged the leadership of the FCID to provide clarity on the controversial postings, stressing that accountability is critical to maintaining institutional credibility.
