How FRSC Recovered Stolen Vehicle Through Routine Patrol, NVIS

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered another stolen vehicle during a routine patrol operation in Lagos, underscoring what it described as the growing impact of its enforcement and digital verification systems.

According to a statement signed by Assistant Corps Marshal and Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the recovery occurred on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at about 5:11 p.m. at the RS2.1114 Isolo Unit Command.

Ogungbemide said a Toyota Sienna with registration number LSD438GK (ash colour) was apprehended for Vehicle Licence Violation (VLV) after the driver failed to present valid documents. The vehicle was subsequently impounded in line with established enforcement procedures.

“Unknown to the Command at the time of arrest, subsequent checks revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen, while the driver had already been declared wanted,” he stated.

He added that the suspect was later handed over in handcuffs on Monday by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Ajao Division, for further necessary action.

The Corps attributed the breakthrough to the effectiveness of routine patrol enforcement and the deployment of the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS), which enables digital verification and traceability of vehicles nationwide.

Ogungbemide noted that the NVIS platform has strengthened inter-agency collaboration, enhanced transparency in vehicle registration processes, and curtailed activities of criminal syndicates involved in vehicle theft and identity manipulation.

“The Corps reiterates that enforcement is not merely about compliance with traffic laws but also about national security, crime prevention, and public safety,” he said, urging motorists to ensure proper documentation and cooperate with patrol operatives during checks.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the recovery team and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to leveraging technology, intelligence, and strategic partnerships to rid Nigerian roads of criminal elements and safeguard lives and property.
