Additionally, the timely intervention of a reinforcement team comprised of elements of Civilian Joint Taskforce, vigilante as well as hybrid forces that arrived on the scene aided the overpowering of the terrorists.

Buba disclosed further that though the troops’ reinforcement team encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which resulted in injuries to the vigilante commander, the team arrived timely to decimate the fleeing terrorists.

Furthermore, the air component of Operation HADIN KAI conducted air interdiction on the fleeing terrorists, which Battle Damage Assessment reveals that several of the terrorists were killed. Troops also recovered over 200 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunitions.

Sadly, however, 6 personnel were killed in action.

Buba noted that the names of the soldiers killed in action “are withheld to allow administrative procedures of notifying their next of kin be concluded” and appealed to the media to respect the process.

“On the whole, the Armed Forces of Nigeria is
profoundly conscious of its role and responsibility in ending insurgency and terrorism in the nation. Accordingly, troops remain committed to the course of defeating the terrorists”, Buba said.
