The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a fatal road traffic crash involving multiple vehicles along the Challenge–Gate axis at Bere, Ibadan, on March 24, 2026.

FRSC spokesperson, Corps Commander Felicia Kalu, said the crash, which occurred around 1:30 p.m., involved a DAF tanker and five tricycles under the RS11.32 Oluyole Unit Command.

TheFact Daily notes that this incident occurred only a day after the most recent fatal crash along the Abuja corridor along the Tafa axis of Niger State, a key route linking Abuja to the North.

The incident claimed 10 lives and was described by authorities as preventable, with the Federal Road Safety Corps attributing it to excessive speeding and the dangerous practice of mixed loading—carrying passengers alongside goods—a recurring risk factor on the busy highway.

The crash underscores persistent safety challenges on the corridor, where high traffic volume, commercial transport pressure and poor compliance with road regulations continue to contribute to deadly accidents.

According to the Corps, 11 persons were involved in the Ibadan accident, with three sustaining injuries and two—an adult male and female—losing their lives.

FRSC operatives evacuated the injured to nearby hospitals, while the deceased were deposited at Adeoyo Hospital morgue. The damaged vehicles were cleared to ease traffic, with the tricycles moved to Mapo Police Station and the tanker recovered by the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority.

Preliminary findings attributed the crash to excessive speeding, which caused the tanker driver to lose control and ram into the tricycles.

Reacting, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed described speeding as a leading cause of fatal crashes, warning motorists—especially operators of heavy-duty vehicles—to maintain safe speeds and prioritise lives over haste.
