The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, is currently meeting with the retired police officers who gathered peacefully to express their concerns over retirement benefits, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this said the engagement which was calm and orderly, was attended only by the genuine retirees who chose the path of dialogue.
On Monday, some retired police officers protested at the National Assembly and Force Headquarters to demand their removal from the contributory pension scheme (CPS).
The demonstrators, mostly elderly, stood in the rain, holding placards and chanting anti-government songs.
“The IGP’s presence is a demonstration of the Police leadership’s commitment to listening to the plight of the retirees and ensuring their voices are heard in a dignified and constructive manner”, Adejobi stated, while assuring that “further updates will follow as the meeting progresses”.
