The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has reacted to a viral online video depicting an individual being an officer of the Service, purportedly in police custody for alleged criminal act.
The Service on Sunday, through its Public Relations Officer, AS Akinlami, while dissociating itself from the suspect, reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on criminal tendencies amongst its officers irrespective of ranks.
According to Akinlami, the Comptroller General of Immigration, CGI Kemi Nandap, has constituted an independent panel to investigate the allegations and determine the extent of the suspect’s involvement pending the outcome of the police investigation into the alleged crimes.
The Service, while promising to take necessary disciplinary actions should the allegations be confirmed, assured the general public of its unwavering commitment to upholding its statutory responsibilities and maintaining national security.
“The Service remains dedicated to serving the nation with integrity and professionalism”, the statement said.
