Just In: Gunmen Abduct School Children, Teachers In Ekiti
Gunmen have reportedly abducted six children, three teachers, and a bus driver in Emure Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The incident is said to have occurred on the evening of Monday, January 29th, 2024 while the school bus was conveying the children to Eporo-Ekiti.
TheFact Daily gathers that the incident occurred at the same time bandits attacked a vehicle conveying three traditional rulers between Oke-Ako and Ipao Ekiti, in Ajoni Local Government Area.
The gunmen were said to have ambushed the school bus carrying the pupils from a private nursery school back home from the day’s work at about 5 pm.
Although no word has been heard from the police as of the time of filing this report, the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, said in a statement on Tuesday that security agencies in the State are already on the trail of the abductors with a mandate to bring the pupils and their teachers back safely, and .has promised that the school pupils would be rescued unhurt.
He urged residents to remain calm as efforts were underway to rescue the victims.
The Governor, who described the kidnapping of the pupils as callous and unacceptable, said nothing would be spared in the efforts to rescue them.
“Security is being stepped up across the State with a view to flushing out criminal elements from their hideouts,” Mr Oyebanji said, while urging residents to cooperate with security agencies, by making available relevant information to the authorities.
