Just In: Nine Days After, Police Release Daniel Ojukwu

After spending nine days in detention, The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has released Daniel Ojukwu, a reporter with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ).

FIJ Founder, Fisayo Soyombo, confirmed his release to PREMIUM TIMES on Friday.

Daniel Ojukwu was alleged to have been arbitrarily arrested by the Nigeria police over a story highlighting financial irregularities in the Buhari administration.

According to FIJ, Ojukwu who was arrested in Lagos and later transferred to FCT, following his report on alleged financial mismanagement of over N147 million ($104,600) involving a senior government official, is yet to regain his freedom after eight days in detention.

During the protest staged by journalists and members of the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), on Thursday at the Force Headquarters (Louis Edet House) in Abuja.

Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benneth Igweh promised that the journalist would be released.
