By Sunday Etuka, Abuja
The President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Wednesday, April 10, 2024 as Eid-el-Fitri.
This follows the report of no sighting of the new moon by the National Moon Sighting Committees.
However, a statement on Monday by the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, Prof. Sambo Junaidu, said, the council accepted the report and accordingly declared Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH.
The statement said: “His Eminence, the Sultan felicitates with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings
“The Sultan, while urging the Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress, and development of the country, also wishes all Muslims a happy Eid-El-Fitri,” it said.
Recall that the Sultan yesterday asked the Muslim Faithful to look for the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH today, Monday, April 8, 2024, being the 29th of Ramadan at 1445 AH and the day to look for the new moon of Shawwal.
Meanwhile, TheFact Daily had earlier reported that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia also declared Wednesday as the first day of Shawwal and Eid day, commemorating the completion of the 2024 Ramadan fast.
The Kingdom said: “The crescent moon was NOT sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid- el-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10th April 2024.”
