The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to QMB Mart to remove all illegal structures on Coastal Road and under the powerline.
According to a statement posted on the agency’s official X handle, LASBCA said its officials on Thursday sealed a building under construction at Femi Okunnu Road, Alexander Avenue, after the developers failed to secure the required permits.
The agency informed that adherence to building regulations was crucial to prevent the proliferation of unauthorised structures and to ensure safety and orderly development across Lagos.
Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS and Urban Development, Dr Olajide Abiodun, said the space was originally allocated strictly as a parking lot but had since been converted to other things.
“The occupants allegedly converted it into a commercial hub, erecting a laundromat, clubhouse, and eatery without proper approvals.
“Development in Lagos must follow due process. Any structure built without approval or any change of use of Government-Allocated spaces without authorisation is illegal. We are committed to ensuring that the master plan of the state is respected”, he said.
General Manager of LASBCA, Gbaye Florence, reiterated the agency’s commitment to regular monitoring of all development zones.
“Our job is to ensure that buildings across Lagos are safe and comply with global standards. Anyone who puts up structures without approval will be tracked, marked, and appropriate enforcement actions taken,” she said.
The agency therefore affirmed that its enforcement exercise will continue across the state to eliminate illegal structures and promote a safer, well-planned Lagos.
