The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says there were three (3) new confirmed cases of Lassa fever reported in Edo and Ondo states.
In the latest Lassa Fever Situation Report published today, the agency noted that there was a decrease from the 5 confirmed cases in the previous week (week 33).
Also, in the cumulative for week 34, there were a total of 857 confirmed cases, 160 deaths and a Case Fatality Rate (CFR) of 18.7%. This was higher than 17.1% recorded in the same period in 2024.
According to the situation report, 21 states recorded at least one confirmed case across 106 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
90% of the confirmed cases were from Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, and Ebonyi State. The predominant age group affected by the disease was 21- 30 years.
Furthermore, No new healthcare worker was affected this week, also, the number of suspected and confirmed cases decreased compared to the report for same period in 2024.
