The President has also removed all other board members appointed with Akinyelure and Kyari in November 2023.
He however, appointed new 11-man board with Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the Group CEO and Ahmadu Musa Kida as non-executive chairman.

According to the President, the board’s restructuring was crucial for enhancing operational efficiency, restoring investor confidence, boosting local content, driving economic growth, and advancing gas commercialisation and diversification.

Tinubu also handed out an immediate action plan to the new board: to conduct a strategic portfolio review of NNPC-operated and Joint Venture Assets to ensure alignment with value maximisation objectives.

While congratulating the new board, Lokpobiri, in a post on his x handle on Thursday, pledged the Ministry’s unwavering collaboration and support for the transformation of the energy sector.

“As we continue the transformation of our energy sector, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources assures you of unwavering collaboration and support.

“I also call on all industry stakeholders to rally behind the new leadership of NNPCL in driving efficiency and sustainability,” the Minister wrote on his x handle.

He commended President Tinubu for the strategic decision, which, according to him, aligns with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), further strengthening the sector’s legal framework and positioning it for greater effectiveness.
