President John Mahama has assured Ghanains that their votes in the last election to make him President of the country for the second term in office would not go in vain, as he is ready to truly serve them.

TheFact Daily reports that Mahama, who served as the 12th president of Ghana between 2011 and 2017, was reelected in December 2024.

He succeeded President Nana Akuffo-Addo who served from 2017-2025.

Speaking, he said “to the millions of my fellow country men and women who joined long queue and waited in the sun for their turn to vote for me, you have my sincerest thanks, my firm assurance is that your vote will matter in the work that I will do to make a difference in the destiny of this dear nation of ours. Your courage to bring change will not go in vain.’

“Our nation was born with much promise. That promise will seem hazy and in doubt now because of all that has happened in the past, but I urged you my fellow country men not to resort to a state of perpetual pessimism. For some times our country urgently needed leadership with an unwavering desire to get things done. I will in all humility accept that I intend to be that leader with your cooperation and your help,” he said.

While rolling out his plans for Ghana, he said “the circumstances we found ourselves in are indeed dark, but even so I will be decisive and swift in my actions to focus our initial efforts on four critical areas: “the first is economic restoration and stabilisation of the macroeconomic environment. Second is the improvement of the business and investment environment to ensure that Ghana is once again open for business. The third governance and Constitutional reforms, and the final but not the least is accountability and fight against corruption.”

He said his government would be working diligently to strengthen the country’s public health system while monitoring the global health situation so that when next global pandemic occurs, the loss of lives in Ghana will be minimal.

He called for an end to the ongoing social media manipulation by some faceless people who are bent on creating enemity with neighbouring countries, emphasing the need for regional integration.

“Technology just like Artificial intelligence has taken us to new heights, open up the potential for national, financial, and personal security issues that we are not yet imagined.

“One example is the use of misinformation and manipulation on
social media platforms to sway a particular group sentiment towards or away from something.

“Now more than ever before, we need to strengthen our ties with our neighbours to ensure that we are working together to keep our sub-region safe. To stand in solidarity and work in alliance with all our neighbours in the sub-region,” he said.
