Gospel singer , Mercy Chinwo has filed a N1.1 billion defamation suit against blogger Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.
The suit stems from alleged defamatory social media posts made by the blogger regarding a contract dispute and the alleged diversion of $345,000 involving Chinwo’s former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as EeZee Tee.
In the writ of summons filed by her lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Chinwo is seeking a court declaration that statements made by the Defendant in videos posted on his Instagram page, @verdarkblackman, on February 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 12th, and 17th, 2025, are defamatory.
The contested statements include allegations that Chinwo engaged in secret financial dealings, falsely accused another party of bullying, orchestrated a detention by the EFCC in Ilorin, withheld $3,500 from her record label, manipulated legal proceedings, and pressured a judge to arraign EeZee Tee for strategic media advantage.
Chinwo contends that these statements, widely circulated on social media, are libelous, malicious, and intended to damage her reputation. She is, therefore, seeking An order directing the Defendant to remove the defamatory posts from all social media platforms.
The claimant is also a mandatory retraction of the statements and an unreserved apology to be published in two widely circulated national newspapers and across the Defendant’s social media platforms.
A further apology to be published in four national dailies for at least 14 consecutive days.
The claimant is praying for the court for Payment of N1 billion as general damages for defamation by the Defendant and Payment of N100 million as punitive and aggravated damages.
And Payment of N25 million to cover the cost of the suit along with Payment of 10% interest on the judgment sum per annum until full liquidation.
