Nasarawa: Inter-clan Violence Contained As Troops Take Charge

The Nigerian Army(NA) says its troops have taken decisive action to restore law and order in Mararaba Udege Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa State, following a deadly clash between the Ambu and Eki clans.

This was disclosed by the Army via its X handle on Friday, May 3, 2024.

TheFact Daily reports that several persons, including the village head of Ebbe Oka were reportedly killed in a dispute over land in Mararaba Udege on Wednesday, 1st May 2024.

A resident of the community said the conflict, which was between the Ambu and Eki dwellers, both belonging to the Afo ethnic group, also left several individuals with various degrees of injuries.

The violence has forced scores of residents to flee their homes to neighbouring communities and bushes for safety.

According to the NA, troops during the operation engaged the warring factions, and arrested 3 identified kingpins amongst the warring parties. The troops also recovered one 36 Hand Grenade, one AK- 47 rifle, one Beretta Pistol, one locally fabricated gun, 2 machetes and one club with metal spikes.

“The situation is presently under control as troops are now fully deployed in the general area to bring a sense of relief to the local populace, the statement said, adding that “the swift and decisive action of the troops will not only bring hope for lasting peace but also serve as a reminder of their dedication to protecting civilian lives and maintaining order in the face of adversity”.
