By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have apprehended a suspect for using the name of the Commissioner of Police in the state to commit employment fraud.

The state Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this on Sunday.

According to Nansel, the suspect, identified as Yusuf Idris, had fraudulently obtained the sum of N300,000 from one Monday Akinde, with a promise to secure a job for him at the Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board.

Idris also tricked the same victim into bringing someone seeking recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force where he claimed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Shehu Nadada had given him a slot, which he (Idris) was willing to sell for N500,000.

In a bid to convince his victim of the authenticity of his claims, the suspect lured the victim to the State Police Command Headquarters and left him at the entrance of the Command, then entered into the Command Headquarters and was lurking around before he was consequently arrested, and the aforementioned confessions were made.

A search promptly conducted on him revealed two fake promotion letters of people working at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital which he claimed to have gotten on Facebook and a cash sum of N300,000, which were recovered from him as exhibit.

Nansel said that the CP Nadada has called on members of the public who might have fallen victim to the suspect to come forward with their complaints.

He also urged them to be wary of employment racketeers and be mindful of posting sensitive information about themselves on social media. To those planning to toe the path of the arrested suspect, the CP sounded a note of warning to “turn a new lease of life as anyone caught will not be speared.”
