Navy Rescues Boat Mishap Victims Afloat For 2 Days
The Nigerian Navy, NN, has said that it has rescued two victims of a boat mishap, who had been afloat for 2 days after the incident.
The NN’s Director of Information, DINFO, Commodore Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, made this known Thursday, 4 August, via a press release.
TheFact Daily gathers that the victims, who are Ghanian fishermen, were rescued by Navy Ship (NNS) PROSPERITY while on patrol about 10 nautical miles (nm) North East of Dangote Quay on Tuesday, 2 August.
The ship sighted a man floating at sea on a yellow 20 litres gallon, and consequently altered course towards the position of the man and successfully recovered him.
The rescued man revealed that there was a second person was involved, following which, the ship proceeded to the location of the second man and safely recovered him as well.
According to investigation, the fishermen, who reside at Takwa Bay, Lagos, went fishing on Sunday 31 July 2022, but encountered a boat mishap at about 10pm that day.
Sadly, 2 of them were said to have drowned before the remaining two were rescued by NNS PROSPERITY.
“The Nigerian Navy wishes to reiterate its commitment towards ensuring the security and safety of all seafarers in Nigeria’s maritime domain”, the statement said.
