NCC Moves To Resolve Telecom Service Disruptions In Abuja

By Stella Enenche, Abuja

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged the quality of service challenges currently affecting telecommunications subscribers in Abuja, assuring the public that efforts are underway to restore optimal service delivery.

NCC made this known on Friday night in a statement was signed by the Head, Public Affairs, Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha.

The Commission attributed the disruptions to diesel supply interruptions affecting IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation infrastructure provider responsible for powering base stations used by major operators, including MTN and Airtel, in the affected areas.

According to the NCC, the situation arose from the activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which disrupted diesel supply to critical telecommunications sites, resulting in service outages across parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The Commission said it is collaborating with key stakeholders and licensees to address the challenges and ensure the swift restoration of services.

It stressed that reliable power supply remains essential for the provision of seamless telecommunications services nationwide.

NCC said it is actively engaging relevant stakeholders to resolve the diesel supply bottlenecks and explore sustainable solutions to prevent a recurrence.

The Commission urged all parties involved to work together to promptly remove the constraints affecting critical telecommunications infrastructure.

While thanking subscribers for their patience and understanding, the NCC reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the growth and sustainability of the telecommunications sector.

NCC also pledged to keep the public updated on progress toward restoring full services in Abuja.
