The Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Nwakuche, has decorated thirty newly promoted senior officers with the prestigious rank of Assistant Controller-General of Corrections (ACGs).
The decoration took place on Friday at the Service’s national headquarters in Abuja.
While congratulating the officers, the CGC commended them for their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the Service, noting that their promotion is both a recognition of past meritorious service and a call to higher responsibility.
He therefore issued a stern warning to all Command Officers over the unacceptable pattern of security breaches in custodial facilities and called for proactive supervision, operational vigilance, and strict adherence to established security protocols.
“This decoration is not just to celebrate milestones; it is to honour excellence, reward merit, competence, and the emergence of thirty finest officers into the leadership cadre of the Service” the CG stated.
He urged the officers to redouble their efforts in advancing the Service’s mandate of safe custody, reformation, and reintegration of offenders.
Speaking on behalf of the newly decorated officers, ACG Sylvanus Yakubu, expressed gratitude to the CGC for his purposeful leadership and the Service’s management for the confidence reposed in them.
He assured that the team would uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and innovation in their respective commands and directorates, adding that to whom much is given, much is expected.
The colourful ceremony was attended by representatives of heads of agencies under the Ministry of Interior, members of the Corrections management team, family members of the celebrants, and invited dignitaries, who witnessed the symbolic pinning of ranks.
“This promotion exercise marks a significant step in strengthening the leadership cadre of the Nigerian Correctional Service, ensuring that experienced and competent hands continue to drive the Service towards excellence”, the Service said.
