Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted three foreign-bound drug couriers who excreted a combined 236 wraps of cocaine at airports in Abuja and Kano.
The anti-narcotics agency’s Head of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to him, one of them, a 34-year-old China-based businessman, Ibeanu Vincent Chukwudulue, was arrested on February 4 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport while boarding a Qatar Airways flight to China via Doha. He later excreted 52 pellets of cocaine weighing 735.95 grams.
On the same day, two Angolans—Mbandu Martins Makiadi, 50, and Ngoma Wilson Fernando, 52—were intercepted at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport en route to Turkey.
Under observation, they expelled 76 and 108 wraps respectively, weighing a total of over 2.2 kilograms. The suspects said they were promised $3,000 each to deliver the drugs.
In Lagos, NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport foiled attempts to export cocaine and skunk concealed in garri and jerry cans to the UK.
A convicted drug trafficker, Olashupo Michael Oladimeji, allegedly masterminded one of the plots from prison, leading to the arrest of his associate.
Further operations led to arrests and seizures across Lagos, Abuja, Kwara, Edo and Oyo states, including synthetic cannabis, tramadol pills, methamphetamine and over 563 kilograms of skunk recovered from a forest camp in Edo.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers for their vigilance and urged sustained efforts in both drug supply and demand reduction nationwide.
