The defence partnership between Nigeria and India has received a major boost with the courtesy visit of the Indian Defence Adviser to Nigeria, Colonel Manoj Singh, to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Nigerian Army Medal, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Apollonia Anele, stated that the engagement which took place on Tuesday, reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening bilateral military cooperation and advancing mutual security interests.
In his remarks, Colonel Singh commended the Nigerian Army for its sustained efforts in addressing security challenges across the country and expressed gratitude for the warm reception.
He reiterated India’s readiness to broaden defence cooperation, expand training opportunities for Nigerian Army personnel, and deepen technical exchanges in key areas beneficial to both nations.
Responding, the COAS underscored the value of Nigeria’s long-standing partnership with the Indian Armed Forces.
He described India’s support in military training, capacity building, and defence development as instrumental, emphasizing the need to intensify collaboration in counter-terrorism operations, intelligence sharing, equipment support, and professional military education.
The visit also featured the presentation of souvenirs to Colonel Singh by the COAS as a gesture of friendship and ongoing cooperation.
The Defence Adviser subsequently signed the visitors’ book, followed by a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
