Nigeria, UK Seal Migration, Visa Deals

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

Nigeria and the United Kingdom have signed three agreements covering migration partnership, border security cooperation, and expansion of business visas for UK companies operating in Nigeria.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who signed the agreements on behalf of the Federal Government in the UK on Thursday, said the deals reflect a commitment to a transparent, orderly, and mutually beneficial migration system.

TheFact Dally notes that the agreements come amid growing efforts by both countries to tackle irregular migration, strengthen border controls, and deepen economic ties. Nigeria and the UK have in recent years expanded cooperation on security and immigration, while also seeking to boost trade and investment through easier visa processes and structured mobility pathways.

Tunji-Ojo said the partnership would help remove barriers to trade and support Nigeria’s broader economic ambitions, adding that migration policies must align with national development goals while ensuring accountability for abuses of legal pathways.

UK Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, described Nigeria as a key bilateral partner, noting that the agreement reflects a shared vision on migration management and cooperation.

UK Trade Envoy, Florence Eshalomi, added that expanding business visas would drive economic growth and create opportunities for both countries.
