Nigerians Doubt Presidency’s Clarification On Alleged Removal Of INEC Boss

By Stella Enenche, Abuja

Nigerians on social media have expressed doubt over presidency’s denial of the sack of Chairman, Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

According to some citizens on Monday, there is always an element of truth in every rumour.

TheFact Daily gathered that earlier today, a report that went viral alleged that the presidency had sacked Yakubu and replaced him with a certain Professor Bashiru Olamilekan.

However, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, described the claims as false and misleading.

He said any decision or official action taken by the President would be communicated through established and authorised channels, not through speculation or rumours.

Bwala who called on the public to disregard the rumour said, “The story trending across media platforms to the effect that Mr President @officialABAT has either sacked the INEc chairman or has replaced the INEC chairman is not true and should be discountenanced.

“Decisions and or official acts of Mr President are communicated through official channels and not rumor mill,” he said.
