Nigeria’s Wakama Named Olympics Best Female Basketball Coach

D’Tigress’ Rena Wakama has been named as the Best Female Basketball Coach in the just concluded 2024 Olympics games in Paris, France -an award most Nigerians described as well deserved.

The 32-year-old led the team to victory against top ranked Australia and Canada in the group stage of the game to qualify for the quarter finals.

Wakama who took over as the coach of the team last year, defeated the Canadian team 79-70 in the last group game to cruise into their first ever Quarter-finals of the Olympics.

With the defeat, Nigeria made history as the First ever African team (Men or Women) to play in the Quarter-finals of the game at the Olympics.

However, the team’s celebration was cut short after losing to their United States counterparts in the quarterfinal.

D’Tigress lost 74-88 to the U.S. women’s basketball team in the Olympic quarterfinal round.

Despite the defeat, the team was applauded by many lovers of the game for putting up such an impressive performance.
