The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has received approval for its revised Conditions of Service to strengthen staff welfare, professionalism, and institutional efficiency within the Agency.
According to NiMet, the updated Conditions of Service followed a comprehensive review process carried out through sustained engagement between NiMet Management and recognised staff unions.
The collaborative effort focused on addressing key issues relating to staff welfare, career progression, discipline, and productivity, while aligning the Agency’s human resource framework with prevailing public service standards.
Approvals for the revised document were granted by relevant oversight authorities, including the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), among other statutory bodies.
The approvals formally validate the implementation of the new Conditions of Service across the Agency.
Under the revised framework, clearer guidelines have been introduced on appointments, promotions, career advancement, and disciplinary procedures.
The document also enhances provisions on staff welfare, leave entitlements, and work life balance, while standardising processes to promote fairness, transparency, and accountability in line with Federal Civil Service rules.
NiMet said the updated Conditions of Service are expected to improve staff morale and motivation, leading to increased productivity and more efficient delivery of meteorological and climate services nationwide.
The Agency noted that a strengthened workforce is critical to its mandate of providing timely and reliable weather information to support aviation safety, agriculture, disaster risk reduction, and national development.
Management urged all staff to familiarise themselves with the revised Conditions of Service, describing it as a comprehensive guide to employees’ rights, responsibilities, and career development within the Agency.
NiMet reaffirmed its commitment to continuous institutional reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency, staff welfare, and excellence in service delivery, in line with its broader mandate to support Nigeria’s socio-economic growth through accurate and timely meteorological services.
