The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) have disclosed partnership to enhance manpower development and raise professional standards within the nation’s aviation ecosystem.

Director General of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, and the Rector of NCAT, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila, signed the Memorandum of Understanding( MoU) on Monday on behalf of their organisations in Abuja.

The agreement is designed to promote closer institutional ties, strengthen technical capacity, and improve service delivery across the aviation and meteorological value chain.

Under the framework, both institutions will leverage their respective training infrastructure to support specialised courses, advisory services, and joint programmes tailored to aviation professionals.

The arrangement includes staff exchange initiatives and coordinated training sessions aimed at equipping personnel with globally compliant skills.

A key component of the partnership is the utilisation of NiMet’s Training School in Oshodi, Lagos, for aviation programmes aligned with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards.

The collaboration will also cover diploma-level training in Aviation Meteorology and other critical areas such as safety management systems, crisis response, aviation security, air navigation systems, airport operations, and aviation management.

Speaking during the ceremony, Prof. Anosike described the agreement as a strategic step toward strengthening Nigeria’s aviation support services through sustained investment in human capital and technical expertise.

He noted that effective meteorological services are central to safe and efficient flight operations, adding that continuous professional development remains vital to meeting international standards and evolving industry demands.

The MoU is expected to foster knowledge sharing, enhance operational efficiency, and reinforce Nigeria’s capacity to deliver world-class aviation meteorological services.
