NiMet Partners Landmark University To Boost Climate Research, Education

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has disclosed its partnership with Landmark University to strengthen meteorological research and deepen climate science education in the country.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both institutions, on Thursday , the collaboration will enhance climate data collection and analysis while supporting initiatives that promote environmental resilience and sustainable national development.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Director General of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, said the partnership aligns with NiMet’s mandate to improve data-driven weather predictions and early warning systems.
He noted that the initiative will support research in critical areas such as drought monitoring, flood analysis and agricultural planning.
“We are committed to advancing climate science that directly supports communities and national development,” Anosike said, adding that the joint effort would further strengthen Nigeria’s climate adaptation capabilities.
Pro-Chancellor of Landmark University, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to create an enabling environment for collaborative research.
He said the university would actively participate in staff exchange programmes, joint research projects and community outreach activities aimed at translating scientific findings into practical, locally adaptable solutions.
The MoU underscores the growing importance of partnerships between government agencies and academic institutions in addressing the impacts of climate change. With NiMet’s technical expertise and Landmark University’s research capacity, the collaboration is expected to bolster climate monitoring, education and innovation Nationwide.
