The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has donated relief items to the recent flood victims in Borno State.
NNPC, in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, said the items were donated through the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, the NNPC Foundation.
The statement said, during a condolence visit paid to the Borno State Government on Tuesday, the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mele Kyari, represented by the Executive Vice President, Business Services, Mr. Danladi Inuwa, conveyed the company’s heartfelt message to the government and people of the state over the disaster.
According to the statement, the materials provided to the affected communities during the visit include essential supplies such as food, toiletries, bedding, and other household items.
A report by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) revealed that flooding has affected over 619,000 people in 29 states in Nigeria since mid-August.
It has also claimed 210 lives, displaced nearly 228,700 people, and damaged more than 84,800 homes.
Last week, the Chairman of Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) and Chairman, National Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Aliko Dangote, donated the sum of one billion Naira to help assuage the pains of the Maiduguri flood victims in Borno State.
The Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation (PCFRR), which Dangote heads, also donated another sum of one billion naira to help the Maiduguri victims.
This is in addition to $6.5 million donated by the United States (US) government through the
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to address flood related humanitarian needs across Nigeria.
