The leadership of the Nigerian Army has assured citizens that notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, would soon be eliminated.
The Chief of Defence Operations, Maj. Gen. Emma Onumajuru, gave the assurances on Monday, while speaking as a guest during a breakfast show on Channels Television.
According to him, Turji, whose movements and activities are being tracked, would be smoked out of his hiding place and eliminated.
“As I speak, Bello Turji is in hiding, completely in hiding, and the armed forces are tracking him. The armed forces continuously track him, and very soon, he will be eliminated”, Onumajuru said, adding that the military is aware of Turji’s current location and would close the gap on him and his remaining allies earlier than expected.
Bello Turji Kachalla, popularly known as Turji, is a notorious Nigerian terrorist and bandit leader operating in North-western Nigeria, particularly Zamfara, Sokoto and Niger states. In 2022, a bandit gang led by Turji carried out a series of massacres in Zamfara, resulting in the deaths of nearly 200 innocent people, including women and children.
The Nigerian army killed one of the top terrorist commanders, as well as 31 fighters, during a military operation in the violence-ravaged northwestern region.
In January, the army killed Turji’s second-in-command, Aminu Kanawa, and 31 terrorists, and injured some of his close allies, including his younger brother, in Operation Fansan Yamma. The development came after the army had killed Turji’s fighters and his son in operations to clear out his hideout. The outlaw was also forced by the military to abandon his son and the soldiers during the ensuing gunfight.
