Mrs. Funke Arowojobe has assumed duty as Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), in a move to strengthen strategic communication and institutional coordination within Nigeria’s aviation safety ecosystem.
According to the bureau on Thursday, her appointment follows the recent redeployment of senior directors across key aviation agencies by the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
Arowojobe brings over two decades of professional experience spanning communications, insurance, risk management, stakeholder engagement and corporate governance.
Before her redeployment, she served as Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), where she was credited with strengthening the agency’s public interface and deepening consumer-focused communication.
At NiMet, she championed structured stakeholder engagement platforms that improved understanding of meteorological services among aviation operators, agribusiness stakeholders, disaster management agencies and the media.
Her tenure was also marked by improved visibility of the agency, clearer communication of weather advisories and enhanced public confidence in early warning systems critical to aviation safety and climate resilience.
With a background rooted in risk management and insurance, Mrs. Arowojobe is widely regarded as a seasoned crisis communication professional with a strong commitment to transparency.
Observers say this combination of skills positions her well to manage the sensitive communication demands of accident investigation processes, particularly in balancing factual accuracy with empathy for affected families and stakeholders.
At NSIB, she is expected to strengthen the Bureau’s public affairs architecture, improve public understanding of transportation safety issues and drive more robust consumer and stakeholder engagement mechanisms.
The Public Affairs and Family Assistance Directorate plays a central role in communicating investigation updates responsibly, while protecting the integrity of technical findings.
Her assumption of duty comes at a time when transparency and effective communication are increasingly critical to sustaining public trust in aviation safety oversight.
It is believed that her cross agency experience will support stronger synergy between accident investigation, regulatory oversight, meteorological services and air navigation management.
Colleagues describe Mrs. Arowojobe as a disciplined professional and consensus builder with a reputation for translating complex technical information into clear, accessible public messaging.
With her appointment, NSIB has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening public trust, institutional credibility and family assistance within Nigeria’s aviation safety framework, in line with global best practices.
