Nigeria’s D’Tigress on Sunday defeated their Canadian counterparts to book a place in the Women’s Basketball Quarter-finals of the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
The Nigerian girls defeated the Canadian team 79-70 in their last group game to cruise into their first ever Quarter-finals of the Olympics.
With the defeat, Nigeria has also made history as the First ever African team (Men or Women) to play in the Quarter-finals of the Game.
The team led by Rena Wakama started the game on the front foot and had a 10-point lead at some point but allowed the Canadians to level up, as the two teams could not be separated at the end of the first quarter, sharing 18-18 points.
D’Tigress went into the break still very much in the game, trailing their opponents by only four points (41-37).
The African champions rallied in the third quarter to lead 55-46, and finally won 79-70.
