Owo Church Attack: National Security Council Fingers ISWAP
The National Security Council has disclosed that Islamic State West African Province, ISWAP, is responsible for the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, last Sunday.
The Council disclosed this today, while briefing joirnalists after its meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
TheFact Nigeria reports that the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who was joined by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Usman Baba, said security agencies are now zeroing in on them.
Aregbesola noted that while their imprints have been determined in the attack, arrests are yet to be made.
The Minister further noted that the attack has no ethnic-religious connection as he affirmed that the group activity has nothing to do with real religion.
Owo town in Ondo State was thrown into a state of anguish, Sunday, after gunmen stormed the St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, during Mass. They opened fire on the worshippers, and killed no less that 38 persons in the attack.
