The Scheme is a laudable project initiated by the National Pension Commission to help the informal sector have some savings when they retire.

Statistics from the National Pension Commission, however, show that only about 95,000 participants have subscribed to the scheme which is a very low number compared to the 70 million target by the pension regulator.

The conference will serve as an avenue to sensitise Nigerians in the informal sector and also bring together stakeholders to discuss the prospects and challenges.

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenoP) Pension Fund Administrators such as Access Pensions Ltd, Premium Pension Ltd, and Police Pension Ltd, have committed to attending the epoch-making event.

Other stakeholders expected at the event are the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Executives, Abuja School of Pension and Retirement Planning, Civil Society Organizations in the Pension Industry, Nigerian Union of Pensioners, traders, and artisans associations among others.

The conference promises to be educative as issues surrounding the sector will be discussed extensively with a view to finding feasible solutions to them.
