Police Bust ₦12m Diesel Theft Syndicate In Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has uncovered a diesel theft operation valued at ₦12 million at a construction site in Ibadan.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

According to him, operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit, acting on credible intelligence and with support from vigilant members of the public, arrested Yusuf Mutiyat and Ogunniyan Rasheed at Kopek Construction Company, where they were allegedly siphoning liquid suspected to be diesel from a mixer truck.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of 24 barrels containing 240 litres each of the suspected diesel — approximately 10,000 litres — with an estimated value of ₦12 million, believed to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.

The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, commended the professionalism and swift response of the operatives involved in the operation.

He also acknowledged the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, noting that his guidance continues to strengthen policing efforts nationwide.

The Command further appreciated members of the public for providing timely intelligence that aided the swift interception of the suspects and recovery of the stolen product, preventing further financial losses.

The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the full scope of the operation and identify any accomplices.

The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged residents to continue sharing actionable intelligence to curb criminal activities.
